Anthony Kleanthous

Independent Sustainability Consultant

“The role of business is to provide products and services that improve people’s lives without trashing the natural ecosystems on which we all depend for our economic and spiritual wellbeing. This is an urgent, systemic challenge, requiring new levels of collaboration, creativity, sensitivity and commercial nous. These attributes are what I will be looking for as a judge in the 2009 Green Awards.”

Anthony Kleanthous is a writer, speaker and consultant on sustainable development, and Senior Policy Adviser on Sustainable Business and Markets at WWF-UK. Anthony has authored several influential reports on business sustainability: “Let Them Eat Cake” (WWF-UK, 2006) “Deeper Luxury” (WWF-UK, 2007) and “Facts & Trends on Sustainable Consumption” (World Business Council for Sustainable Development, 2008), as well as numerous articles. He has advised many blue chip companies and industry associations on sustainable development, is a member of the Steering Committee of the Chartered Institute of Marketing’s Sustainable Marketing programme, serves on the UK Government’s Wellbeing Indicators Group, is a Trustee of Sustain, and was a judge in the International Advertising Association’s inaugural Responsibility Awards, 2007. Anthony’s previous career in advertising (Saatchi & Saatchi, DDB Needham) and in senior marketing roles with AstraZeneca, PayPal and toptable.co.uk, allows him to place environmental and social considerations firmly in a commercial framework.
