Director of Communications, Green Cross International, Geneva,Switzerland

“Our lifestyle is so out of sync with what is sustainable. The Earth is scarred with our voracious appetite to extract, cut down, pollute and destroy. Those being honoured with these Green awards show us a way of life that respects nature, environment and our home planet.”

Someshwar Singh is Director of Communications at Green Cross International, based in Geneva, Switzerland. He has over 25 years of media related experience. After completing his Masters in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics, he worked for the daily Financial Express, part of India’s largest newspaper group – the Indian Express. He subsequently joined the Press Trust of India and developed and worked for its television wing – the PTI Television.

Towards the end of 1988 Someshwar began writing on international issues from Geneva, particularly development-related stories.  His association with the green movement began when he joined the Communications team at the World Wide Fund for Nature  (WWF) International. He provided communications support to several key segments such as freshwater, marine, forests, climate change, international trade and macroeconomics for over seven years. Someshwar was Senior Editor (2000-2007) of the South Bulletin, a fortnightly he started and managed for South Centre, a Geneva-based inter-governmental organisation of developing countries.
