Best Green Event Award
Sponsored by Kyocera
Kyocera has been a pioneer in sustainable office printing since 1992, when it launched its Ecosys range of office printers. Now in its fifth generation, the Ecosys concept redefines laser printer design by drastically reducing the number of items contained in the disposable print cartridge. Instead, these parts are designed as permanent components in the printer and guaranteed to last for up to half a million pages. This novel approach reduces consumables waste by as much as 90%, as well as cutting consumables costs to typically half as much as ordinary laser printers.
Other product environmental impacts are also addressed, with paper-free manuals, recycled (and recyclable) cardboard packaging, and compliance with numerous environmental standards. At an operational level, Kyocera has achieved ISO 14001 accreditation at its facilities worldwide and its UK HQ was the first in its industry to gain the Carbon Trust Standard. But what really sets Kyocera apart is its commitment to promoting sustainable office practice. Its Green Card network was established in 2001 to provide a forum for exchanging best practice on reducing environmental impacts of general office activities, through a combination of free web resources, conferences and seminars.
